A magnificent eucharistic hymn

At the end of the sunday morning worship service at the ICS family conference we sang the beautiful eucharistic hymn, "This is the feast of victory for our God," easily the best of the recent Lutheran contributions to the liturgy of the church. The words are adapted from Revelation 5:12-13 by John W. Arthur (1922-1980), and the tune, Raymond, was composed by Peter R. Hallock (b. 1923). It is often sung in place of the Gloria in excelsis at the beginning of the service.

This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God.

This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Power, riches, wisdom and strength, and honor, blessing, and glory are his.

This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Sing with all the people of God, and join in the hymn of all creation: Blessing, honor, glory, and might be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen.

This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign. Alleluia

This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
